About the project

The idea for my capstone project stemmed from countless Sunday afternoons spent playing games with my family, often accompanied by laughter, competition, and dreams of our next visit to Disneyland. I wanted to capture the warmth and whimsy of those memories and fuse them with the fond memories I have of spending time at Disneyland with the people I love.

Approach

The illustrations were primarily inspired by Bjørn Aronson’s style of bold shapes and simplified architectural forms from his screen-print attraction posters. The vibrant pinks, blues, and accents of gold on the edges of the cards echo the architecture of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. The face cards feature stylized illustrations of iconic attractions and park structures.

To extend the design system beyond the deck, I created a series of posters and stickers inspired by the different suits in the deck. Each poster highlights one of the park’s iconic Mountains, reinforcing the thematic connection between suits and lands. These posters were designed as environmental graphics, echoing the experience of walking through the tunnel toward Main Street and encountering attraction posters upon entering the park.
